What makes some people stand out in a crowd? Are some people born witha different set of values as compared to others. I have always wondered about this especially when it comes to cops, firefighters or soldiers in the army.
I mean consider this, when the World Trade Centre fell everyone was rushing out to escape the fire and these guys rushed in to help people. They too have families and friends and I wonder what their lives are like sitting on the sidelines everyday and praying that your son, brother or husband comes home in the evening safe and sound.
And to those who are into these professions, is life any different for them as compared to you and me? Do they value it more and make the most of it? Do they wake up in the morning and think, I am happy to be alive today so let’s live every moment of this day? Also, do they feel brave and honourable for what they do? I really dunno.
My sister’s husband is posted in Siachen these days. Earlier, he was in Baramulla. I don’t know what he goes through daily. All that matters to me is the fact that he is safe and happy. Cheers!!

They’re just normal people. They’re everyday people. One thing I learned as an EMT is that the people you thought were flawless (for me it was doctors) are just regular guys who make mistakes (often) and have all the same shortcomings as everyone else. Firefighters and cops are just guys (and gals) that like the adrenaline rush that the job can sometimes give you. Most of the time though it is all very hum-drum, same old stuff. They train constantly for events like 911 but the reality is that most of the time, the job is full of everyday stuff which is pretty tame and routine. They are human, scared and some are very egotistical about what they do but at the end of the day they are just people and like to be regarded as such.
