Break free

The recent comment of George Bush blaming India for the rise in food prices due to “increased demand for better nutrition by the Indian middle class” really got my blood boiling. I mean how dare he! America consumes maximum fuel and is the world’s highest polluter and he blames us for asking for a better standard of living!

But even as I raged on about this, my dad came up with another perspective. He felt that it was a statement that ought to make us proud. Why is it that we are always dependant on America’s view of what’s good for us or not? Can’t we decide for ourselves? Do we need to react? Especially when the one saying this is a bumbling buffoon. How low is our self-worth then?

True, isn’t it? Try as we may, we still are looking for the world’s approval for everything that we do. We want to please everyone. I think is it is inherent in the Indian psyche to be the goody two shoes of the world. Well, it is time to snap out of it. We need to think only about ourselves without turning into an Iran or Korea. But we will never actually be free from the shackles of slavery until and unless we are able to establish our own individuality. Like this flop film rightly states…I proud to be Indian. Cheers!!
